Biography

I am an ACCS CT2 anaesthetics trainee, having undertaken the majority of my training at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

To me, representing trainee anaesthetists means pushing back against the erosion of our professional worth and standards. We have witnessed pay, working conditions and respect decline dramatically, leaving trainees feeling demoralised and unappreciated. This has been compounded by the attempted expansion of other professions, whilst opportunities to progress in our own career become more limited. It is about saying ‘enough is enough’ and calling out the blatant injustices affecting trainees in the NHS, and seeking to improve the trainee experience in what is a wonderful specialty.

Outside work, I play in the band ‘Five Days North’. After releasing various recordings, and winning best Unsigned band, we are now a function band, which provides a reason to not just jam to Basshunter, but also get applauded rather than judged for doing so. I support Crystal Palace Football Club, because watching them scoop the ball out the net for the fifth time in a game whilst 25,000 people boo puts my own career challenges into perspective.

Had I not undertaken anaesthetics training, I would consider paediatric oncology, having completed my MRes in this field.
