Elections to RCoA Council 2022

The self-nomination period to stand in this election opens on 26 September 2022 and closes on 17 October 2022.  You can find out more about the two Consultant vacancies and one Trainee vacancy by reviewing the role description and nominate yourself for election by completing our online form.  Please also use our canvassing guidelines which set out the manner in which all candidates for elected College roles are required to conduct canvassing.  

Consultant member 

There will be two Consultant member vacancies in the 2022 Council election cycle. 

In total there are 20 Consultant members of Council who are elected by Fellows, Associate Fellows, Members, Associate Members, Anaesthetists in Training and Fellows in Training. These positions are renewable. The first term of service is six years, and the second term is four years. Vacancies can arise either from resignations or after completion of a term of service. Those eligible to stand are Fellows by examination and Fellows Ad Eundem on the specialist register and complying with the conditions of the Ordinances and Regulations.

Trainee member 

There will be one Trainee vacancy in the 2022 Council election cycle.

This position is elected by those registered as trainees with the College (Anaesthetist in Training and Fellows in Training) and are not renewable. The term of service for the candidate elected to this vacancy is four years. Vacancies arise either from resignations or after completion of a term of service. Those eligible to stand are those registered with the College as Fellows in Training or Anaesthetist in Training who will have passed all of their FRCA examinations before taking up their Council seat (8 March 2023).

The self-nomination period to stand in the next election to Council closes on 17 October 2022.   

Timetable 

  • 26 September 2022: Nominations opens. The call for self-nominations was publicised on the website, via social media, in the President’s  News eNewsletter. 

  • 17 October 2022 at 12 noon: Nominations closed.  

  • 16 November 2022: Ballot emails distributed. Ballots will be sent electronically by Civica to the email address registered at the College. The ballot process will be independently managed and verified by Civica. 

  • 15 December 2022 at 12 noon: Ballot closes. Ballots must be returned by 12pm. 

  • 16 December 2022: The election results will be declared via the College website as soon as possible following the ballot count and ratification. The results will also be published in the President’s News eNewsletter and the Bulletin. 

  • 8 March 2023: New members will be admitted to their first Council meeting
